Opp’n criticizes govt for dismissing urgent proposal in Parliament

KATHMANDU: Main opposition Maoist Centre, including opposition parties, expressed strong dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to include their urgent public importance proposal in the parliamentary agenda during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR).

As the session commenced, opposition MPs stood in protest. Speaker Devraj Ghimire then gave the floor to Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, who criticized the government for disregarding parliamentary procedure.

Pandey explained that when they inquired about the omission of their proposal from the day’s agenda, they were told that ministers were unavailable to allocate time for the discussion. He called this an example of the government’s neglect of both Parliament and the people’s concerns.

“We went to the Speaker with fellow MPs who supported the proposal, only to be told that ministers didn’t have time,” said Pandey. “This is a clear sign of the government’s apathy toward Parliament and public suffering.”

Pandey demanded that Parliament hold a debate on the issue, emphasizing the urgency of their proposal.

The motion, filed on Monday, calls attention to the government’s continued inaction on the pressing demands of protesting teachers and healthcare professionals seeking professional rights.

The proposal has received support from Rastriya Swatantra Party Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, Unified Socialist lawmaker Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Aam Janata Party’s Prabhu Sah, and Rastriya Janamorcha leader Chitra Bahadur KC.
