Janardan Sharma panel dominates Akhil Krantikari elections, wins key positions

KATHMANDU: Janardan Sharma’s panel has secured a majority of key positions in the Akhil Krantikari elections, the student wing of the CPN (Maoist Centre).

Despite losing the presidency to Bijay Prakash Sapkota, Sharma’s faction won the general secretary post, seven out of nine deputy general secretary positions, and the treasurer seat.

Roshan Thapa Magar was elected as general secretary from Sharma’s panel, while Sapkota, backed by Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Deputy General Secretary Shakti Basnet, won the presidency by 73 votes.

Among the deputy general secretaries, Sharma’s panel secured victories in most provinces, with candidates winning in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.

In addition, Niraj Shrestha from the Kathmandu Valley Special Province and Jatil Karki from the University Province were also elected, with Shrestha being aligned with senior vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

The vote counting for vice presidents is still underway, with candidates from the Prachanda, Dev Gurung, and Pampha Bhusal factions leading in various positions.

Sharma’s panel also secured six out of twelve secretary positions, and Phulmaya Rana Magar won the treasurer post.

The overall election results indicate that Sharma’s panel has emerged as a dominant force within the student organization, securing key roles despite losing the presidency.
