KATHMANDU: Former UML Achham district committee secretary Bharat Saud has joined the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). Saud, who was a Constituent Assembly member in 2013, was welcomed into the party by senior leader Bhim Bahadur Rawal during a program on Friday.
After joining, Saud said he wanted to contribute actively to strengthening unity within the communist movement. “Any initiative that promotes communist unity is positive,” he said. “That is why I decided to join NCP.”
Saud was previously considered part of the faction opposing Rawal within UML. He said he did not join the “Matribhumi Campaign” earlier because he feared it might distance him from the communist ideology. Now that major groups have come together under the NCP, he said he felt comfortable joining.
Saud served as UML deputy secretary in Achham from 1993 to 1997 and later became district secretary twice. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly from Achham Constituency-2 in 2013.
Meanwhile, NCP coordinators Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and leader Bhim Rawal are addressing the party’s “Unity Message Assembly” in Dhangadhi on Friday.
