Nepal Medical Association urges action after assault on hospital staff at KIST

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has strongly condemned the assault on doctors and health workers at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Lalitpur, along with the vandalism of hospital property. The association has also demanded immediate legal action against those involved in the incident.

The attack occurred on October 27, following the death of a pregnant woman during treatment, when an angry group reportedly vandalized the hospital and assaulted medical staff.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the NMA expressed deep regret over the violent act in such a sensitive health facility and urged that the perpetrators be brought under legal scrutiny. The association also offered condolences to the deceased patient.

The statement read, “If there is suspicion of negligence during treatment, legal avenues are available to address the matter. However, assaulting doctors and damaging health institutions is inhumane and adversely affects the healthcare system.”
