Nepal Airlines Corporation launches direct flights to China’s Guangzhou

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation, has commenced direct flights to Guangzhou, China. The corporation began operating regular Kathmandu-Guangzhou-Kathmandu flights on Saturday.

Although the flights were originally planned to start from September 25, technical issues delayed the inaugural flight, which eventually took off on Saturday afternoon.

The initial flight scheduled earlier was canceled after passengers from various sectors, including some invited guests, had already arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport. The corporation provided support to those affected passengers.

According to spokesperson Manoj Kumar Sah, the flight that departed Kathmandu on Saturday returned from Guangzhou on Sunday, carrying 107 passengers. Regular flights to Guangzhou will now operate according to the scheduled timetable.

Direct flights to Guangzhou will run every Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday. The one-way fare from Kathmandu to Guangzhou is set at NPR 30,000, with a return ticket priced at NPR 50,000, according to the corporation.

Currently, China Southern Airlines and Himalaya Airlines also operate regular flights on the Kathmandu-Guangzhou route. With a significant Nepalese population in Guangzhou, this route is expected to be financially beneficial for Nepal Airlines.

With the addition of the Guangzhou flight, Nepal Airlines now operates regular international flights to 11 destinations across nine countries. The current destinations include Doha (Qatar), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Dubai (UAE), Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore (India), Bangkok (Thailand), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Narita (Japan), the corporation stated.
