Cholera outbreak intensifies in Madhesh Province



KATHMANDU: The cholera outbreak in Madhesh Province is worsening, with 115 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).

The total number of confirmed cases has now reached 540. Of these, 257 patients have recovered and returned home, while 283 are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals, the Ministry of Health reported.

Birgunj Metropolitan City remains the most affected area. Narayani Hospital is currently treating 158 active patients, with 62 new admissions in the last 24 hours alone.

Similarly, Terai Hospital is treating 42 active cases and has confirmed 10 new infections, while Birgunj Health Care Hospital has 24 active patients with 8 new admissions.

In addition, Kalaiya Hospital in Bara reported one new case linked to travel history to Birgunj. Pokhariya Municipality Hospital in Parsa has also registered 8 new cases.
