PM Oli, Kim Jong Un, and Putin to appear together at Chinese military parade

BEIJING: China is set to mark the 80th anniversary of its victory over the Japanese invasion with a large-scale military parade, displaying its armed forces for the first time in front of international leaders. The parade is scheduled for September 3.

According to the BBC, the Beijing parade will feature China’s latest weapons, including hundreds of aircraft, tanks, and advanced anti-drone systems. The event coincides with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, which Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will attend.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Prime Minister Oli will address the SCO summit in Tianjin starting September 1 and will also attend the anniversary celebrations in Beijing.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is expected to participate in the parade at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Other global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, will also be present.

The anniversary commemorates the brutal decades-long struggle against Japan’s imperial government in the 1930s–40s, during which millions of Chinese civilians were killed. China’s Communist Party has historically organized remembrance programs to honor the wartime resistance and vow never to be subjugated again.

The North Korean news agency KCNA confirmed Kim Jong Un’s attendance as a guest of “Comrade Xi Jinping.”
