Govinda KC announces hunger strike from Sunday



KATHMANDU: Medical reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has announced that he will begin a new round of hunger strike from Sunday, August 31, in protest against the government’s recent decision on medical education.

Dr. KC, who has long been at the forefront of campaigns for medical education reform through repeated hunger strikes and pressure movements, said he was left with no choice after the government ignored his demands.

The government recently decided to increase student quotas in private medical colleges, a move that has drawn widespread criticism. Dr. KC has demanded that the decision be revoked, arguing that seats should instead be expanded in public institutions to ensure affordability and access for all.

Observers say the government’s move favors private medical colleges at the expense of public health and education.
