Over Rs 840 million in insurance claims filed after Rasuwa flood

KATHMANDU: Insurance claims amounting to over Rs 840 million have been filed following the devastating flood that struck Rasuwa district on July 8.

According to the Nepal Insurance Authority, a total of Rs 843.81 million worth of insurance claims had been submitted as of July 24.

The largest portion of claims, Rs 580.1 million, comes under property insurance, with six major claims filed in that category.

Additionally, marine insurance accounts for Rs 162.3 million across seven claims, while engineering and contractor-related risks represent another Rs 54 million from three claims.

Motor insurance claims have also been significant: Rs 25.95 million has been claimed under public motor insurance through 38 cases, and Rs 21.45 million under private motor insurance through 14 cases, the Authority reported.

The flood had caused extensive damage to businesses, infrastructure, and private property, prompting a surge in insurance claims as affected individuals and institutions seek financial recovery.
