Eight major highways blocked across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Eight major highways across Nepal have been completely blocked following incessant rainfall that began on Saturday night, according to Nepal Police Headquarters.

The affected roadways include the Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha, Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk, Mid-Hill Highway in Nuwakot, the Jajarkot-Dolpa-Bheri Corridor in Rukum West, another section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Jajarkot, Karnali Corridor in Humla, and a key bridge linking Nepal to China in Rasuwa.

The disruption has caused major challenges to transportation and logistics, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions already prone to landslides.

Meanwhile, several road sections are operating with limited access. One-way traffic is currently allowed along the Tokha–Nuwakot road section in Kathmandu, the Kaligandaki Corridor at Baglung Municipality in Baglung, the Kaligandaki Corridor at Gaindakot Municipality in Nawalparasi (East), the Beni–Jomsom section at Thasang Rural Municipality in Mustang, and the Sahid Highway at Paribartan Rural Municipality in Rolpa, according to police.

Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions as efforts to clear debris and restore traffic continue in several affected regions.
