Devotees flock to Pashupatinath and Shiva temples across the country

KATHMANDU: Today marks the second Monday of the holy month of Saun. From early morning, large crowds of devotees have gathered at Pashupatinath Temple and Shiva shrines across the country.

To facilitate the worshippers, all four gates of the Pashupatinath Temple were opened from 3 am.

The month of Saun is considered sacred for Lord Shiva, and Monday is believed to be his favorite day. It is a long-standing tradition for devotees to fast and worship Lord Shiva on this day.

Special prayers and rituals are performed in honor of Lord Ashutosh (another name for Shiva).

According to the Pashupati Area Development Trust, three separate queues have been arranged for devotees visiting the temple today. Devotees can enter through the Umakunda, Jayabageshwori, and Pingalasthan routes to offer their prayers.

It is widely believed that fasting on Mondays during Saun and offering milk and water to Shiva fulfills one’s wishes.
