RPP lawmaker accuses Home Minister of using probe committee to shield corruption

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Roshan Karki has accused Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak of using the government-formed probe committee to shield himself from accountability in the ongoing visit visa controversy.

Speaking during Saturday’s House of Representatives session, Karki criticized the high-level investigation committee led by Shankar Das Bairagi, calling it a convenient tool for the Home Minister to “protect his earnings.”

“I thought the Home Minister was straightforward, but it turns out he’s shrewd,” Karki said. “He formed a committee that makes it easier for him to escape and even protect the money he’s allegedly made.”

She warned Lekhak against displaying arrogance, suggesting he could one day find himself on the receiving end of public scrutiny. “Don’t act overconfident. A time may come when you have to stand on the other side and face the people,” she said.

Karki further alleged that Lekhak has been making between Rs 5 million to Rs 10 million daily through illegal dealings under the guise of visit visas. “You’ve been selling Nepali citizens,” she claimed.

Calling the scandal a matter of national shame, she urged the minister to step down. “If you have even a shred of moral integrity, resign and support an impartial investigation,” she said.

Her remarks come amid continued parliamentary obstruction by RPP and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who have been demanding the Home Minister’s resignation and an independent investigation into the visa racket.
