HoR meeting suspended for 30 minutes due to opposition protest

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives has been postponed once again for 30 minutes after opposition parties continued to obstruct proceedings.

Wednesday’s session began nearly two hours later than scheduled, but it was disrupted shortly after commencement due to protests from opposition lawmakers. The Speaker suspended the meeting for 30 minutes in an effort to restore order.

A similar disruption occurred on Tuesday, when opposition members chanted slogans and forced a temporary suspension of the session. When order could not be restored within the allotted time, the Parliament Secretariat issued a notice rescheduling the session for 2:30 pm.

Even after the rescheduled time on Tuesday, consensus could not be reached among the parties, prompting a second notice from the Secretariat. As a result, the meeting was postponed until 11 am on Wednesday.

The continuous disruptions stem from opposition demands for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over his alleged involvement in the visit visa scandal. Despite repeated consultations, no agreement has been reached, leading to further deadlock in Parliament.
