KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has emphasized that dissatisfaction should not be exploited for political gain.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Monday, Thapa warned against trading on public dissatisfaction and called for responsible actions that do not incite unrest.
He acknowledged that while citizens are generally satisfied with Nepal’s political achievements, widespread restlessness and dissatisfaction remain.
According to Thapa, the primary reason for this unease is that the everyday lives of citizens have not improved in the way that political changes had promised.
“What the Nepali Congress has realized is that, despite satisfaction with political achievements, there is growing restlessness and dissatisfaction among the people,” Thapa said.
“The main reason is that the changes in the daily lives of citizens—which we had promised and which the people expected—have not materialized. This has led to frustration. We believe that this dissatisfaction must be addressed, not exploited. It should not be provoked, but resolved. Restlessness must be alleviated.”
Thapa stressed that addressing public dissatisfaction is also a major goal of the coalition government formed by the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML.
“Especially in the context of the economic problems and crises we are facing, addressing them is essential to easing citizens’ dissatisfaction. Recently, Parliament passed some important laws. However, we see this only as a beginning. It creates positive energy, but more concrete results are needed. We intend to make full use of this time,” he said.
General Secretary Thapa also made it clear that the Nepali Congress will move forward in accordance with the agreement reached with the CPN-UML and will not engage in activities that could cause instability, either at the federal or provincial levels.
He emphasized that the goal is not merely to remain in power, but to work in a way that delivers tangible results for the people.
