We are in the final battle: Agitating teachers’ President

KATHMANDU: Laxmi Kishor Subedi, President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, has declared that teachers are now in the final battle. He posted on Facebook, “We are in the final battle. Everyone’s active participation is essential.”

Subedi also called on teachers from rural areas to come to Kathmandu as soon as possible.

“Friends who have not yet come to Kathmandu, how can you stay home when the blood of your friends has already been shed in the front lines of this movement? Doesn’t the pain of your protesting friends resonate with you? Don’t you recognize your duty? Please reflect on this and come to Kathmandu as soon as possible,” he urged.

Expressing his objection to the government’s intervention in Sunday’s protest, President Subedi also wished for the swift recovery of all teachers injured during the government’s crackdown.

“We strongly condemn the inhuman attack and atrocities committed by the government against teachers and employees during the protest on April 27,” said Subedi.

The teachers’ movement has now been ongoing for 26 days. Following Sunday’s protest, which escalated after breaking through the restricted area, several teachers, police officers, and journalists were injured when police used water cannons to disperse the crowd.
