National Assembly meeting obstructed

KATHMANDU: Today’s meeting of the National Assembly (NA) was adjourned for one hour due to an obstruction by opposition lawmakers.

NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahl postponed the session after lawmakers from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) disrupted the proceedings, demanding a response from the Prime Minister.

Earlier, lawmaker Tul Prasad Bishwakarma had called for the Prime Minister’s reply regarding the decision to remove Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

“Article 76 (10) of the Constitution of Nepal states that the Prime Minister and the concerned minister are accountable to Parliament; therefore, we demand a response from the PM in accordance with this provision,” he said.

Bishwakarma also linked the removal of Ghising to issues of good governance, claiming the decision had caused significant public concern. He further pointed out that the opposition’s amendment proposal to replace the ordinance still remains unaddressed.

“Although the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister had promised to discuss the shortcomings of the ordinance and its conflicts with other laws, this has yet to happen,” he added.
