KATHMANDU: The royalist protest in Tinkune took a violent turn as demonstrators snatched a tear gas gun from security personnel during clashes with the police.
The situation escalated after protesters defied restrictions and attempted to march towards New Baneshwor. In the ensuing chaos, they attacked security forces, pelted stones, and vandalized buildings. Police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the crowd, but tensions continued to rise.
Shortly after the demonstration was disrupted, protesters set fire to a house in Tinkune. When a fire engine arrived to control the blaze, it was also attacked with stones.
According to SSP Shekhar Khanal of the Valley Police Office, efforts are underway to regain control of the situation. Protesters also targeted the offices of Annapurna Post and Kantipur Television, intensifying the unrest.
One person has reportedly been shot, and an Armed Police Force officer sustained a head injury during the clashes. The full extent of the damage and casualties remains unclear as authorities work to restore order.
