KATHMANDU: Security forces fired warning shots on Friday after a royalist demonstration in Tinkune spiraled out of control.

Protesters, who had gathered to demand the restoration of the monarchy, pelted stones at a commercial building and set fire to houses.

As the situation escalated, police initially deployed a fire engine to extinguish the flames, but demonstrators attempted to set the vehicle on fire.

Despite repeated use of tear gas, the unrest continued, forcing security personnel to fire warning shots in an effort to disperse the violent crowd.
