Royalist protest turns violent in Tinkune

KATHMANDU: The demonstration led by the Joint People’s Movement Committee, which seeks to restore the monarchy, turned violent on Friday after protesters attempted to move beyond the designated protest area in Tinkune towards New Baneshwor.

Police responded with force, firing tear gas and deploying water cannons to disperse the crowd. The confrontation escalated when royalist supporters began throwing stones and bricks at security personnel, leading to clashes that left several people injured.

Video footage captured by Khabarhub showed a man dressed in plain clothes lying unconscious, though further details about his condition remain unknown.

Amid the rising tensions, key royalist leaders, including protest commander Durga Prasai and Monarchy Restoration Campaign coordinator Nawaraj Subedi, left the stage and took to the streets, joining demonstrators in direct confrontation with the police.

The situation in Tinkune remains tense as authorities attempt to contain the unrest.
