KATHMANDU: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Bhairavkunda in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 of Sindhupalchowk at 2:51 am on Friday, causing minor damage but no major casualties.
According to Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa, the situation is now under control.
A dry landslide occurred in Tusare, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3, although no human or material losses were reported, as the area is uninhabited. Minor damage was observed in a single-storey zinc-roofed police barracks building in Kodari.
Security teams from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police have been deployed to monitor the situation. Authorities have urged locals to take precautions against potential dry landslides and falling rocks.
One prisoner, 33-year-old Syangbo Tamang, was injured while fleeing in panic during the quake. He received basic treatment at Chautara Hospital and has since been discharged.
Dr. Lokvijay Adhikari, senior seismologist at the National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center, confirmed that tremors were felt across the country.
