KATHMANDU: Chandragiri Municipality has introduced the online recommendation system for citizenship certificates, marking the first such initiative in the Kathmandu Valley. The service was launched in Municipality-12, Balambu.

Before launching the service, the municipality, in collaboration with the Home Ministry and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, provided training to secretaries from all 15 wards and executive members.

On Monday, Mayor Ghanshyam Giri and Chief Administrative Officer Hem Raj Aryal inaugurated the service by submitting online recommendations for Balambu residents Anuj Maharjan and Tisha Shrestha using the new system.

According to the Home Ministry, by mid-January, 2,000 wards from 28 districts had started offering online recommendations for citizenship certificates to their respective District Administration Offices.

This digital system was first introduced in Gaindakot, Nawalparasi last year.

The digital recommendation system has streamlined record-keeping, sped up service delivery, and helped reduce documentation errors.

Chandragiri Municipality has announced that it will implement the online recommendation system across all wards this week.

The local government is also offering digital services for house map certification, revenue collection, and vital registration.

Mayor Giri shared that the municipality plans to implement digital signatures soon as part of the government’s push for tech-friendly governance.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mukti Ram Rijal expressed gratitude to Chandragiri Municipality for launching the online citizenship recommendation system, noting that other local levels in Kathmandu would soon follow suit.
