PM Karki urges three leaders to ensure successful elections at any cost

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged major political parties to work together to ensure the success of the upcoming House of Representatives election, which is set to be held under challenging circumstances.

During a meeting with top leaders of the Nepali Congress, the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), and the Nepali Communist Party at the Prime Minister’s residence on Saturday, Prime Minister Karki called on the parties to actively participate in the election.

She appealed to the leaders to view the election as a matter of the nation’s future and to commit themselves to safeguarding stable and sustainable democracy. Emphasizing that ensuring a successful election is a shared responsibility, the Prime Minister said the government believes the parties are prepared for the polls and that a conducive environment for the election is gradually taking shape.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Karki told the three former prime ministers, “Let us make this election successful by any means. Everyone must participate. The government believes you are ready for the election. The environment for the polls is being created, which is welcome.”

Prime Minister Karki also clarified that the government has provided necessary resources to the Election Commission and the police administration, adding that the morale of security personnel has been boosted.

The meeting was attended by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, and Coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel was also present at the meeting.
