Court orders 7-day remand for Congress leader Khadka

KATHMANDU: The court has authorized keeping Nepali Congress leader Deepak Khadka in custody for seven days for investigation. He was arrested on Sunday morning by the CIB Nepal in connection with alleged money laundering.

Khadka, a former Minister of Energy, was linked to illegal funds discovered after a fire at his residence during the Gen Z protests on September 9, 2025. The investigation also involves the alleged illegal occupation of land and buildings belonging to Nepal Scouts in Lainchaur.

The CIB claims that Khadka’s company, “Khadka Land Development Pvt. Ltd.,” had been unlawfully using approximately 12 ropani of Scouts’ land for years. Despite the lease expiry, the land was not vacated, and rent payments totaling millions were allegedly withheld, prompting the Scouts to file a complaint.

During the previous government led by KP Sharma Oli, Khadka faced prolonged investigation for alleged misuse of public property and abuse of office. Earlier, the Kathmandu District Administration Office had sealed structures on the contested land.
