Zelensky has “nothing until I approve it,” Trump says ahead of peace talks

WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “doesn’t have anything until I approve it,” according to media reports, ahead of their planned meeting in Florida.

Trump made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Politico on Friday, two days before the two leaders are expected to hold talks on a proposed peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long Russia–Ukraine conflict.

According to the report, Trump and Zelensky are expected to discuss the framework of a new 20-point peace plan. The proposal reportedly includes the establishment of a demilitarized zone, arrangements for the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, territorial control of the Donbas region, and potential US security guarantees for Ukraine after the conflict ends.

The meeting comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a negotiated settlement to the war, which began in February 2022.
