KATHMANDU: A sudden drop in temperature has swept across Nepal, with the Kathmandu Valley recording a sharp fall in morning lows on Thursday. The minimum temperature in Kathmandu fell to 7.4°C, down from 10°C the previous Thursday, marking a 3°C drop in just one week.
The maximum temperature in the capital also dipped slightly, registering 19.2°C compared to 20.2°C last week.
Elsewhere, Jumla recorded a chilly -4.9°C minimum on Thursday, down from -2°C the previous week.
In western Nepal, Nepalgunj’s maximum and minimum temperatures fell to 27°C and 12.4°C respectively, from 27.8°C and 15.5°C last Thursday.
In the east, Janakpur’s minimum temperature dropped to 14.2°C, with a maximum of 29.6°C, compared to last week’s 16°C minimum and 31.5°C maximum. Similarly, in Biratnagar, the mercury fell to 13.2°C in the morning and 28.8°C during the day, down from 14.6°C and 30.8°C last week.
Meteorologists attribute the sudden cold snap to seasonal shifts and advise residents to take necessary precautions, especially in northern and high-altitude regions.
