DP : There is proof government officials asked us to escort Rabi

BHAIRAHAWA: Acting Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), DP Aryal, has stated that current party Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is serving time in jail, was not forcibly taken out of the Nakkhu prison. He said Rabi was released at the request of the prison administration.

Answering questions about the events during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, Aryal clarified that Rabi left Nakkhu voluntarily, following instructions from the prison authorities.

Aryal mentioned that the prison administration had even called another deputy chair, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, requesting Rabi’s release. “The call said, ‘Either you, DP Aryal, or Nikita Paudel should come,’” he said, adding that the party has preserved this proof.

He emphasized that Rabi was not forcibly removed. “On September 9, the government’s higher authorities requested us to ensure Rabi’s safe transfer from jail, so we complied,” he said. He also said the jail authorities themselves asked the party to take Rabi out for security reasons. “The prison administration told us they felt unsafe and requested us to escort Rabi safely. We have preserved this proof,” he added.

Aryal stated that the party is ready to provide this proof to the government if requested. “We are prepared to show the evidence formally if the government wants to investigate,” he said.

He also assured that if any mistake was found in the decision to release Rabi during the Gen-Z movement, he and the party leaders involved are ready to face disciplinary action. Aryal himself was part of the team that went to escort Rabi. He added that the party’s disciplinary commission is investigating the Nakkhu incident.

He also mentioned that following the Election Commission’s call, the party has instructed its activists across all districts to assist voters in obtaining voter ID cards by November 11.

Aryal added that discussions are ongoing with leaders, including Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, to make RSP a mainstream political force, and that these talks are progressing positively.
