50,000 security personnel deployed nationwide for festival safety

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police have deployed approximately 50,000 security personnel across the country to ensure safety during the festive season.

Central spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire, stated that all security units nationwide have prepared and implemented a special festival security plan, deploying around 50,000 personnel in total. “We have coordinated with other security agencies and worked hand-in-hand with citizens to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the celebrations. Potential risk areas have been identified and special monitoring increased,” he added.

According to DIG Ghimire, drones and trained dogs will be deployed where necessary, along with plainclothes officers. Over 6,000 security personnel will be stationed in the Kathmandu Valley alone, with additional forces deployed as required.

The police highlighted that special monitoring will focus on ensuring smooth vehicle movement, preventing disturbances caused by public gatherings or alcohol consumption, and controlling criminal activities such as theft and smuggling. Surveillance will also target black-market activities and excessive vehicle fares charged during the festive period.
