KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has challenged the current government to present before the public the anti-corruption measures and governance decisions taken during his party’s leadership.
Speaking at a public gathering organized by the National Youth Association in Gundu, Bhaktapur on Saturday to mark the Dashain festival, Oli claimed that his governments consistently prioritized transparency and impartiality.
“The Gen-Z government accuses us of corruption without proof. If they say we were corrupt, let them bring evidence, not rumors,” Oli said. He criticized restrictions imposed on him, including attempts to block his passport and viral social media posts exposing routes to his residence.
“These are undemocratic decisions. What about ensuring the safety of citizens?” he asked.
Highlighting past efforts, Oli said the UML-led government under Manmohan Adhikari in 1994 was popular for welfare programs, while later UML governments after the 2015 Constitution worked to maintain peace, control corruption, and promote education, health, agriculture, and social development.
“From my very first day as Prime Minister, I declared I would not engage in corruption nor allow it under my leadership, and I worked accordingly,” he stressed.
Oli challenged the current administration to disclose and evaluate his “good decisions” for the public to see. He further asserted that only UML can guide the country back on the right path in the days ahead.
Recalling past instability, Oli said, “During the Maoist conflict, the nation suffered politically and economically. We stabilized it then. Now again, there are attempts to spread unrest. The so-called Gen-Z activists are at home while others loot industries and vandalize historic institutions like Singha Durbar and Parliament. This is being orchestrated by different forces.”
Oli reiterated that during his premiership he resisted pressures from within the bureaucracy and focused firmly on good governance.
