Unified Socialist holds secretariat meeting following Madhav Nepal’s release on bail

KATHMANDU: The Unified Socialist Party held its Secretariat meeting on Friday, just two days after party chair and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal was released on bail in a high-profile corruption case.

The meeting took place at the party’s central office in Aloknagar, Kathmandu, and was chaired by Nepal himself, who continues to lead both the party and its parliamentary wing despite facing legal proceedings. Senior leaders including Jhala Nath Khanal and Rajendra Pandey were also present.

Nepal was released on Wednesday after posting a bail of Rs 3.5 million. He is one of several individuals charged in connection with alleged financial irregularities over government decisions granting land ceiling exemptions to the Patanjali Yogpeeth.

The Special Court bench — comprising judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bidur Koirala — issued the bail order following a hearing on his pretrial detention.
