Preparations complete for PM Oli’s visit to Spain



KATHMANDU: Preparations for Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli’s visit to Spain, where he will lead the Nepali delegation to the United Nations’ Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD-4), have been completed.

Prime Minister Oli will leave for Spain on June 28 (Saturday) to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), which will be held in Seville from June 30 to July 3.

He is visiting Spain at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to attend the conference in Seville.

The conference will bring together leaders from governments worldwide, global and regional organizations, financial and trade bodies, business representatives, civil society, and UN officials.

Nepal will advocate at the event by representing the voices of least developed countries (LDCs), as well as small island developing states. The discussions will include monitoring the implementation of investment commitments made by developed countries to support poorer and smaller nations.

Prime Minister Oli’s chief advisor, Bishnu Prasad Rimal, emphasized the importance of this forum in promoting international cooperation to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all preparations for the prime minister’s visit have been finalized. The conference will focus on both immediate and long-term challenges in securing support and investments needed for sustainable development by reforming the global financial architecture, it stated.

The Ministry the significance of the conference as a key platform for dialogue between developed, developing, and least developed countries on issues such as sustainable development, finance for development, development assistance, investment, and technology transfer.

It noted that Nepal’s high-level participation is crucial, especially as Nepal currently chairs the International Coordination of Least Developed Countries.

During the visit, Prime Minister Oli will deliver a keynote address at the conference. He will also pay a courtesy call on King Felipe VI of Spain, meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and hold bilateral meetings with leaders from other countries.
