PM Oli calls cabinet meeting ahead of Spain visit

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a Cabinet meeting for Friday at 1 PM before departing for Spain, his secretariat confirmed.

The meeting will be held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.

PM Oli is scheduled to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, taking place in Spain from June 30 to July 3 .

During his visit, he will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister, where discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation and diplomatic ties.

This marks another high-level engagement between Nepal and Spain. Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari visited Spain in 2021, which resulted in agreements on cooperation in climate change and tourism.

In 2019, then-Communication Minister Gokul Baskota participated in the GSMA ministerial program in Spain. Earlier, in 2016, former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal attended a high-level dialogue in Spain on trafficking of conflict-affected persons. King Birendra visited Spain in 1983, and Spain’s King Carlos made a four-day official visit to Nepal in 1987.

Nepal and Spain established diplomatic relations on May 13, 1968. Nepal opened a resident embassy in Spain in 2018, while Spain continues to handle its diplomatic affairs in Nepal through its embassy in New Delhi, India.
