Speaker engages parties to resume obstructed House session

KATHMANDU:  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, is holding discussions with political parties to resume the parliamentary session that was disrupted due to opposition protests.

The session was obstructed after opposition lawmakers chanted slogans demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who has been implicated in the controversial “visit visa” scandal. In response, Speaker Ghimire initially adjourned the meeting for half an hour.

However, with the situation remaining tense even after the break, the Parliament Secretariat issued a notice postponing the session until 2:30 pm.

As the environment remained unconducive for conducting the meeting at the rescheduled time, Speaker Ghimire has now initiated talks with party leaders in his chamber in an effort to find a resolution, according to his secretariat.
