11 killed, 67 injured in fire incidents across Nepal in one month



KATHMANDU: Fires across Nepal claimed 11 lives and injured 67 people over the past month, according to Nepal Police. The victims include three men, five women, two boys, and one girl.

Nepal Police Central Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, said that the statistics from the month of Baisakh show a sharp rise in fire-related incidents, resulting in significant human and material losses. Among the injured are 27 men, 32 women, and eight children.

Despite public awareness efforts, Thapa stressed that most of these incidents could have been prevented.

In the span of one month, fires destroyed 151 houses, 101 cowsheds, and three government offices. A total of 189 livestock also perished in the blazes. The estimated financial loss amounts to more than Rs 241.19 million.

According to police data, 110 families were displaced, and a total of 634 fire incidents were recorded nationwide during the month.

Province-wise breakdown

Lumbini Province recorded the highest number of fire incidents, with 143 cases. Other provinces reported the following numbers: Koshi (136), Madhesh (104), Bagmati (64), Kathmandu Valley (32), Gandaki (53), Karnali (43), and Sudurpaschim (59).
