Cloudy, rainy weather persists across the country



KATHMANDU: Cloudy and rainy conditions persist across Nepal due to the influence of westerly and local winds, along with the partial effect of moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

The Weather Forecasting Division has forecast rain and snowfall in various parts of the country for Tuesday afternoon and night.

According to the Division, the weather this afternoon will be partly to generally cloudy in the hilly regions, while the rest of the country will remain mainly clear to partly cloudy.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas, and isolated showers may occur elsewhere. There is also a chance of light rain or snowfall in a few high hilly and mountainous areas.

During the night, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy in the hilly regions of Madhesh, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, while the rest of the country will see mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.

Light to moderate rain with thunder/lightning is expected at a few locations in these hilly areas, with light precipitation possible in one or two other places. Light snowfall or rain may also occur in high-altitude regions.

Meteorologists classify less than 10 millimeters of rainfall in 24 hours as light rain, 10–50 millimeters as moderate, 50–100 millimeters as heavy, 100–200 millimeters as very heavy, and over 200 millimeters as extremely heavy.

As per the classification of rainfall coverage, “some places” refers to around 50% of the area, “a few places” indicates about 25–30%, and “one or two places” covers less than 25% of the area.
