Prime Minister’s role ineffective: NC Spokesperson Mahat

DANG: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has criticized Prime Minister KP Oli for failing to play an effective role in governance.

He stated that the government, formed by two major political forces, has been unable to address the people’s grievances as expected and urged the Prime Minister to become more proactive.

Speaking at a press conference in Ghorahi today, Mahat accused the Prime Minister of poor coordination and a lack of cooperation, particularly in managing the ongoing teachers’ protests, the appointment of a new governor, and ensuring good governance.

Mahat also blamed the delay in the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor on the Prime Minister.

He emphasized that the Nepali Congress supports appointing a capable and competent governor who can steer the country’s economy effectively.

Highlighting growing public dissatisfaction, Mahat warned that the government’s failure to deliver on its promises has left people disillusioned. He stressed that political leaders should avoid making unrealistic assurances.

On a separate note, Mahat expressed concern over the misappropriation of funds belonging to small savers in cooperatives.

He urged the government to recover the embezzled money from those responsible and ensure the savings are returned to their rightful owners.

Reflecting on Nepal’s political history, Mahat remarked that the republic was established after the former king attempted to seize absolute power. He made it clear that there is no possibility of restoring the monarchy.
