Security increased for Energy Minister following Kulman’s dismissal

KATHMANDU: Security measures for Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, have been heightened following the dismissal of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising on Monday.

The government deployed additional security personnel after public protests erupted against the decision.

Concerns over potential risks prompted an increase in security arrangements for Minister Khadka, including an escort vehicle and additional security personnel.

Some of his scheduled public programs have also been canceled due to safety concerns.

On Thursday, Minister Khadka was seen under tight security at the Parliament building in New Baneshwar. When asked by journalists about public outrage over Ghising’s removal, he responded, “I don’t think so. We have appointed someone even better than him.”

Following Khadka’s recommendation, the government replaced Ghising with former NEA Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya.

However, the decision has sparked widespread protests.

Demonstrators have burned effigies of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Minister Khadka, while protests have taken place outside NEA’s central office in Ratnapark and Maitighar.

Meanwhile, opposition parties continue to obstruct proceedings in both houses of the Federal Parliament, demanding a satisfactory explanation from the Prime Minister.
