HoR meeting delayed amid opposition protest over Kulman Ghising’s removal

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting scheduled for 11 am on Thursday has been delayed due to continued opposition protests over the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising as Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority.

The meeting was initially adjourned on Wednesday following strong opposition to Ghising’s removal. However, despite efforts by Speaker Devraj Ghimire to mediate discussions with chief whips of all political parties, an agreement has not been reached. As a result, the scheduled meeting has now been postponed to 2 pm, according to a notice issued by House General Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey.

Tensions remain high in Parliament as the opposition, led by the main opposition party, has obstructed proceedings, demanding a direct response from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli regarding Ghising’s dismissal.

Energy Minister Deepak Khadka was reportedly set to address the issue, but opposition lawmakers insist that the Prime Minister himself must provide an explanation.

Oli, however, has maintained that the government’s decision to remove an employee does not warrant a parliamentary explanation. His remarks have further fueled tensions, with the opposition continuing to demand accountability from the Prime Minister.
