Speaker Devraj Ghimire holds talks to resolve parliamentary deadlock

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, is holding discussions with the chief whips of major political parties to address the ongoing obstruction in the parliament by opposition parties.

The meeting is taking place at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, according to the Speaker’s secretariat.

The opposition had disrupted Wednesday’s parliamentary session, demanding that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli provide an explanation for the dismissal of Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising.

While discussions are underway, the secretariat has stated that there is no confirmation yet on whether the Prime Minister will attend the parliament to respond to the opposition’s demands.
