Kathmandu Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol presents program and budget amendments at 15th municipal assembly

KATHMANDU: At the 15th municipal assembly of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol presented proposals for amendments to the city’s programs and budget. The proposal was presented in the presence of Mayor and Assembly Chair Balen Shah, municipal assembly members, officials, and media representatives.

Deputy Mayor Dangol noted that this assembly marks the eighth municipal session for the elected representatives. She highlighted that previous assemblies prioritized cooperation, coordination, and coexistence, and urged assembly members to continue supporting these values to ensure continuity in governance.

The proposal highlights preserving Kathmandu’s historical and archaeological temples, language, religion, culture, attire, and heritage while prioritizing infrastructure development. Plans include continued improvements in basic services such as road and bridge maintenance, waste management, pollution reduction, healthcare, and education.

Dangol stressed that serving the public is the city’s primary responsibility. She stated that policies in the past seven budget assemblies were centered around citizens’ needs. Some initiatives have already been completed, while others are ongoing as long-term projects.

Programs highlighted in the proposal include dust-free roads, access to justice, “Bright Kathmandu” initiatives, “One Ward, One Enterprise,” regular monitoring, online service systems, education for the underprivileged, accessible pharmacies, and the preservation of cultural heritage, all aimed at providing long-term benefits.

Deputy Mayor Dangol also stressed that cooperation and coordination with federal and provincial governments, as well as other agencies, are essential for the city’s development and transformation, and she requested support from all stakeholders.
