Colder morning in Kathmandu as temperature drops

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s minimum temperature dropped by 2.1 degrees Celsius on Friday compared to Thursday, according to initial measurements taken in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in the Valley was recorded at 5.4 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today. At the same time on Thursday, the minimum temperature stood at 7.5 degrees Celsius.

Officials said that even during the second measurement taken at 8:45 am on Thursday, the minimum temperature remained at 7.5 degrees Celsius. The official minimum temperature for Friday will also be recorded at 8:45 am, and there is a possibility that it may fall further or remain close to the temperature recorded at 5:45 am.

Meteorologists explained that nighttime weather conditions play a key role in temperature variation. If the sky remains cloudy throughout the night, the minimum temperature tends to be higher in the morning, while clear skies generally lead to a drop in temperature, making mornings colder.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures daily across various parts of the country, including Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm.

The lowest temperature recorded in a day is referred to as the minimum temperature, while the highest is known as the maximum temperature.
