International Maithili Conference to begin tomorrow

BIRATNAGAR: A two-day International Maithili Conference–2025 will begin in Biratnagar tomorrow with the objective of preserving and promoting the Maithili language and literature, as well as Mithila culture and civilization.

Organized by the Maithili Association Nepal, the conference is expected to bring together around 100 Maithili-speaking representatives from Nepal, India, and other countries, according to the organizers.

Prabin Narayan Chaudhary, President of the Maithili Association Nepal, said the conference will feature a wide range of intellectual discussions, a poets’ conference, and various cultural presentations reflecting Mithila society.

The program will also include exhibitions of books published in Maithili language and literature, Mithila paintings, and traditional Mithila cuisine. In addition, there will be recitations from Mithila’s Puranic tradition, presentations of Shankhghosha, folk dances, folk songs, and other cultural performances.

Vice-chairman of the organizing committee, Pankaj Verma, emphasized the importance of linguistic preservation, stating, “Language is the foundation of human life. We must first protect our own language. Only when the language survives can society survive.”

The conference will feature presentations on 11 key thematic topics and is expected to serve as a platform to connect nearly 100 million Maithili speakers across the world.
