UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet faces Gen-Z protests in Dhangadhi

DHANGADHI: CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet, accompanied by Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, has arrived in Dhangadhi by aircraft, prompting local Gen-Z youth to stage protests.

A group of Gen-Z activists gathered near Devotee Hotel in Dhangadhi, leading authorities to deploy a heavy police presence to maintain order. The protesters, carrying placards, demonstrated against Basnet on the city’s main streets.

Basnet is the first UML leader to speak publicly and engage on the streets following the Gen-Z movement. Meanwhile, he has been touring provinces, including Koshi, campaigning to revitalize UML and its youth wing.

His visits across the country have triggered protests in several areas. Violent clashes were reported in Simara, Bara, while in Biratnagar, some youth affiliated with Congress reportedly threw red paint on the vehicle carrying Basnet.
