Surrounding Singha Durbar won’t bring progress, Mahabir Pun warns Gen-Z protesters

KATHMANDU: Education Minister Mahabir Pun has remarked that Nepal cannot achieve development merely by surrounding Singha Durbar, cautioning Gen-Z protesters to rethink their approach as demonstrations continue in the capital.

His statement comes a day after a group of Gen-Z activists attempted to enter Singha Durbar on Tuesday and staged a symbolic encirclement after being denied entry by security personnel.

Targeting the incident, Minister Pun said the youth must understand that development requires more than protest alone. “In the current situation, can’t the youths understand that surrounding Singha Durbar alone will not develop the country?” he said.

Pun, who rose to political prominence following the Gen-Z movement, stressed that there is now no alternative to participating in the upcoming election scheduled for March 5, 2026. He further noted that if necessary, “a complete revolution” would remain the final option.
