Cardamom exports from Mechi Customs rise 33% in first quarter



JHAPA: Cardamom exports from Mechi Customs Office in Kakarvitta, Jhapa district have increased by 33 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2082/83.

According to the office, cardamom worth Rs 1.679 billion was exported during this period, totaling 1,072 metric tons. Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said that in the same period of the previous fiscal year 2081/82, cardamom exports were valued at Rs 1.722 billion.

While cardamom exports have surged, tea exports have fallen sharply by 40.9 percent, declining from Rs 1.714 billion in the previous fiscal year to Rs 1.128 billion in the current period.

Other major exports have shown mixed results: exports of veneer sheets increased by 126 percent, churros by 61.8 percent, and plywood doubled compared to the same period last year.

Similarly, exports of cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage rose by 71.4 percent, other metal scrap doubled, and lentil exports soared by 481 percent. On the other hand, ginger exports fell by 32.3 percent, while amriso exports dropped by 24 percent.

Overall, goods worth Rs 4.803 billion were exported from Mechi Customs Office during the first three months of the current fiscal year.
