NDRRMA urges caution as fire incidents rise nationwide

KATHMANDU: A total of 14 fire incidents were reported across Nepal in a single day, prompting the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to urge people to exercise extra caution to prevent fires.

The increase in fire incidents has been linked to carelessness and lack of awareness, the authority said. On October 24, fires broke out in Panchthar, Sunsari, Saptari, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Lalitpur, Nawalpur, Rolpa, Gulmi, Rukum Paschim, Kanchanpur, and Darchula.

According to NDRRMA data, 13 fire incidents occurred on October 23, and 17 incidents were reported on October 22. The three-day report shows that fires accounted for the majority of disaster-related incidents during this period.

The rise in fires has been particularly notable after the monsoon season ended and rains subsided, increasing vulnerability across the country. On October 24 alone, a total of 18 disaster-related incidents were recorded nationwide, resulting in six injuries and estimated property losses of Rs 7.791 million.
