Unified Socialist forms talks team for unification with Maoist Centre

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has formed a negotiation team to hold talks with the CPN (Maoist Centre) for party unification. The team will be led by senior vice-chair Beduram Bhusal.

According to a statement issued by party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, the team includes senior leader Pramesh Hamal and vice-chair Prakash Jwala as members. The statement further said the talks will be held on agreed-upon ideological grounds.

The basis for unification outlined in the statement includes: adopting the name “Nepal Communist Party,” recognizing that the Nepali revolution has moved from the democratic stage to the socialist stage, and identifying the principal contradiction in Nepali society as being between the general public and the comprador-bureaucratic capitalist class.

Meanwhile, Maoist Centre chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ informed his party’s central committee meeting that efforts were underway for unification and polarization among the parties within the Socialist Front.

The Socialist Front currently includes the Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal, and Mahindra Raya Yadav-led Nepal Socialist Party.
