Van carrying milk plunges into Sunkoshi River in Sindhupalchowk



SINDHUPALCHOWK: A van transporting milk in Balefi Rural Municipality-5, along the Araniko Highway, plunged into the Sunkoshi River early Friday morning and remains missing.

According to DSP Madhavraj Kharel, spokesperson for the Sindhupalchowk District Police Office, the Maruti van (registration number Ba 12 Cha 6594) fell into the river at approximately 5:20 AM.

The van, belonging to Sindhu Milk Dairy in Chautara Sangachokgadhi-10, Sukete, was en route to Khadichaur from ward number 5 of Balefi when it veered off the road and fell about 50 meters down into the river.

“There were two people in the vehicle — a driver and a co-driver,” DSP Kharel told Nepal Khabar. “The driver has been identified as Nawaraj Khulal of Panauti, Kavrepalanchowk. The identity of the co-driver has yet to be confirmed.”

Search and rescue operations are ongoing. The Armed Police Force reported that personnel from Disaster Management Units under Battalion No. 16 in Sindhupalchowk and the Security Base in Lamosanghu have been deployed to the site.
