Exports from Birgunj surge 181% in first two months of fiscal year



BIRGUNJ: Goods worth Rs 17.3 billion were exported through the Birgunj border checkpoint in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

This marks an increase of over Rs 10.98 billion compared to the same period last fiscal year, when exports totaled Rs 6.5 billion. According to Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj Customs Office, the rise in exports during this period has been encouraging.

“Compared to the first two months of the previous fiscal year, exports from here have increased by 181 percent,” he said. “The foreign trade ratio at this checkpoint was 1:20 in the same period last year. This year, it has improved significantly to 1:60.”

In the first two months of the current fiscal year, exports included 480 liters of refined soybean oil worth Rs 300,000, the same quantity and value as in the corresponding period last year.

Additionally, products worth Rs 1.24 billion were exported, based on customs valuation of Rs 12.695 million. In the same period last year, goods worth Rs 1.29 billion were exported, valued at Rs 13.648 million.

Furthermore, goods worth Rs 1.17 billion (customs valuation of Rs 34.113 million) were exported in the current period—whereas only a negligible amount was exported in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
