Govt discusses sustainable international flights at Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports

KATHMANDU: The government has begun high-level discussions on ensuring regular international flight operations from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa and Pokhara International Airport.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday focused on preparing a sustainable action plan to operate international flights from both airports. The discussion also centered on easing the growing passenger load at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu by diverting flights and identifying further measures to strengthen operations at the two new international hubs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel chaired the meeting, which was attended by Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Pandey, Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Damodar Bhandari, National Planning Commission Vice-Chair Dr. Shivraj Adhikari, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, senior government secretaries, and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

Officials stressed the importance of making both Gautam Buddha and Pokhara airports fully functional for regular international flights to maximize the country’s aviation capacity and support tourism growth.
