Mohan Baidya’s health shows remarkable improvement; now able to walk

KATHMANDU: The health of the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal, Mohan Baidya has shown a “miraculous” improvement following a prolonged illness.

CPN (Maoist Centre) deputy general secretary Barshaman Pun and former Speaker Onsari Gharti visited Baidya at his residence in Tokha Heights, Kathmandu, on Thursday to wish him a speedy recovery and inquire about his condition.

Baidya, 79, had been battling chronic respiratory issues for years and was recently hospitalized at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on May 29 due to worsening asthma and a chest infection. He spent 10 days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before being discharged on June 16.

Speaking after the visit, Pun said Baidya’s recovery has been “extraordinary.” “He used to require constant oxygen support, but now he can stay without it,” Pun said. “He even mentioned that he has started light walking in the mornings and evenings.”

Baidya expressed his happiness over the visit and said their conversation focused more on health and family matters than politics.

Pun and Baidya share a long-standing personal and political relationship. During the Maoist insurgency, Baidya was in charge of the party’s Eastern Command, while Pun served as a senior military leader under his leadership.
